The Kingdom witnesses the signing of a contract to connect the GCC interconnection grid to Southern Iraq’s power grid

In the presence of HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, and H.E. Ihsan Abdul Jabar, Iraq's Minister of Oil, the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) and the Ministry of Electricity of the Republic of Iraq signed a contract to connect the GCC interconnection grid to southern Iraq's power grid. The signing took place at the margins of Jeddah Security and Development Summit hosted by the Kingdom.

 The signing realizes the directives of the GCC leaders, which reflect their keenness on the development and prosperity of Iraq.

 The contract was signed by Dr. Naif AlAbadi, GCCIA's Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Eng. Adel Karim, who is authorized with minister's powers to run Iraq's Ministry of Electricity.

 The contract stipulates that GCCIA establish electricity transmission lines from its Kuwait-based station to Al-Faw station located in the south of the Republic of Iraq, to supply southern Iraq with 500 megawatts of electricity through the GCC interconnection grid, including the new transmission lines to be established. Work is expected to take around 24 months, with a total transmission capacity of 1,800 megawatts.​
