HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, and H.E. Theodoros Skylakakis, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, co-chaired the first session of the Energy Committee under the Saudi-Hellenic Strategic Partnership Council today via video conference.
The two sides discussed various areas of cooperation including electrical interconnection, energy efficiency, renewable energy, clean hydrogen, carbon capture and utilization, the Saudi-Greek cable, and the fiber optic cable system.
HRH Prince Abdulaziz highlighted that the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Greece received significant momentum following the visit of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to Athens in 2022. This visit led to the signing of key agreements, including a memorandum of understanding in the field of energy to develop several projects including electrical interconnection and circular carbon economy technologies.
Prince Abdulaziz emphasized that the electrical interconnection project between Saudi Arabia and Greece reflects their mutual interest in strengthening energy cooperation. This collaboration has led to the creation of a special purpose company, the Saudi-Greek Interconnection Company, and progress in the project's feasibility study.
