Led and Supervised by the Ministry of Energy, First Carbon Recycling Initiative; Carbon-Cured Concrete Receives A Quality Mark Accreditation from SASO

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has issued Saudi Arabia’s first Quality mark for carbon-cured concrete, as part of an initiative led and supported by the Ministry of Energy. This milestone marks a major step in the Kingdom’s drive to deploy circular carbon economy applications, reduce carbon emissions, and achieve its net zero ambitions by 2060.
The initiative falls under the Ministry of Energy’s Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) framework and contributes to enhancing the transition to sustainable construction, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 commitments to climate goals. The initiative also addresses challenges in the hard-to-abate building and construction industry and helps mitigate the carbon footprint of this vital sector.
Carbon-cured concrete enhances the strength and durability of concrete. It also enables a reduction in cement content within concrete mixes and permanently sequesters captured carbon, thereby lowering CO₂ emissions. This aligns with the “Reduce”, “Recycle” and “Remove” pillars of the Circular Carbon Economy framework.
