The Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Mr. Francesco La Camera, received today the credentials of Eng. Abdullah Ali Al-Shehri, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to IRENA, during a formal ceremony held at IRENA’s headquarter in Abu Dhabi.

Since joining IRENA, the Kingdom has played an active role in supporting the Agency’s work and programs, Through its close cooperation with the Secretariat and continuous participation in IRENA’s initiatives and activities, contributing to the global efforts to advance renewable energy, supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, strengthening international partnerships, and sharing the Kingdom’s expertise and accomplishments in this vital sector.

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the Agency is responsible for representing the Kingdom in all of the Agency’s activities and programs. This includes participation in technical and official meetings, contributing to the formulation of international initiatives and programs related to renewable energy, and coordinating with the Agency’s Secretariat and relevant national entities. Such efforts strengthen the Kingdom’s role within the international renewable energy and highlight the kingdom’s leadership role in this sector at both regional and international levels.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was established in January 2009 and is joined by 171 member countries. The agency aims to support countries in their transition toward sustainable energy and promote the adoption of renewable energy sources. Through contributing to global efforts in energy transition, providing data and statistics, and strengthening international cooperation in advancing sustainable energy worldwide.
